Tapestry Tuesday #21 - Link and Preemptive SageArts

Hello all, its Ohms again.

Tapestry Tuesday is upon us once again, and today is the final update demonstrating the SageArt Forms included in the Sagecraft System! At least, for now…

As is expected, we finish things off with a pair of Forms that cap off the current level of complex ability types, Link and Preemptive Forms.

Link and Preemptive forms are highly flexible and variable abilities that can be used in a number of situations to heavily damage and control enemies. Depending on how they function and are used, they can provide a variety of potential, helpful uses in combat!

Link Thread skills are skills which ‘link’ enemies either to each other or to a location or object. In doing so, they provide consistent damage and disruptions, status effects, and/or control over a specific enemy or set of enemies in an area. The conditions that activate the effects, the damage and disruption applied, these and more are important for players to know to optimize the usage of Link abilities.

Preemptive Thread skills are skills which generate a ‘monitoring object’ like Simulte and Reactive Thread skills mentioned a few weeks ago. However, unlike the previous ones, this ability monitors for conditions and stores the frequency of that condition being met. After a period of time, it then releases an effect that damages enemies, with the boosted effect.

This is demonstrated above and below. For this skill, the number of hits increases based on a fraction of the number of hits the player makes against an opponent. For the above, the default state of the ability only allows it to hit enemies twice.

After hitting enemies a number of times, the attack hits enemies more than ten times, a massive damage increase in comparison to its base state!

Depending on the boosted stat, and the nature of how the effect is released, Preemptive abilities can serve as supplementary damage, heavy disruption, or even a deliberate method of providing a specific function, such as defense breaking or instant heavy status application, when used correctly and optimally.

This concludes the Tapestry Tuesdays focusing on the core elements of the Sagecraft System. From now on the focus will be on piecing the elements of said system together to create both an interesting and more optimal experience for players! I look forward to sharing more of that next week.
